Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Hank resides with his wife, Janet, in Phoenix, Arizona, where he maintains an art studio. After serving in the U.S. Army in the 24th Corps at Kwangui, Korea at Headquarters-Communications, Hank studied mechanical engineering at Fenn College, Cleveland, Ohio. Impressed by his drawing talents, his professors encouraged him to pursue the then new field of Industrial Design. As a result, Hank applied and was accepted for art study at the prestigious, nationally respected Philadelphia Museum School of Art, where he was awarded both the Alumni and the Faculty scholarships and graduated with honors. Following a successful career as Art Director/Creative Director with major advertising agencies, Hank founded and managed his own ad agency in Phoenix, Arizona. When asked how he transitioned from owning a successful ad agency to a new life in the fine art arena, Hank said it was the result of a challenge from a nationally known art collector and client. Standing in his private art museum and referring to a C.M. Russell bronze in his collection, the client asked Hank, "Do you think you can you do this?" "I believe I can," Hank replied. That night Hank made his first armature, bought clay and, over the next few days, created a head sculpture. Confidently, Hank showed it to his friend, who said, "Get it cast and Iíll buy it!" As Hank says, "the rest is history!"
Included in many distinguished individual, corporate and museum art collections from coast to coast, Hank's artwork has been shown at major invitational shows such as: The Masters of the West Show at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, Glendale, CA; The Mountain Oyster Annual Western Contemporary Art Show, Tucson, AZ; the Empire Ranch Art Show, Sonoita, AZ; the Payson 12 Annual Art Show, Payson, AZ; and the Festival of Western Art Show, San Dimas, CA. Hank is listed in Who's Who in Western Art; Artists of Renown; Pat Broder's Bronzes of the American West; Who's Who in American Art; Contemporary Western Artists; The West and Walter Brimson; and Men of Achievement in the World. Having taught Creative Art at the Kachina School of Art in Phoenix, Hank currently teaches summer session courses in Sculpture and Cartooning at The Principia College, Elsah, Illinois. Active in church work and selected
local art and charitable organizations, Hank has served as President
of the Board of Directors of the Goodwill Industries of Central
Arizona and the American Indian and Cowboy Artists Assn., as
a Director on the Board of Executives International and as Chairman
of the Executive Board of his church.
